About Us

The Americas Coalition began in 2017 as a program of the World Federation of Hemophilia. Its goal is to join forces with ONMs in the Americas to achieve better treatment for people with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. To achieve this, the CoA periodically holds summits and training programs that help empower leaders of different organizations.

Currently, the CoA has a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Federation of Hemophilia which establishes the actions that each entity can carry out independently and those that must be coordinated and articulated. Its objective is to be able to collaborate, complement and enrich the general guidelines of the WFH on the continent.

To achieve this path, the CoA has been carrying out multiple training actions, participation in international events, technical monitoring and assistance to registered NMOs. The Panama Summit held in 2019 set the guidelines for the minimum standards and goals that as an American community we want to achieve, supporting those countries that still lack development in some areas.

We are executing some Projects that impact on improving the knowledge and tools of the leaders and decision-makers of the ONM in each State, in order to improve the day-to-day treatment: SELFIE research, the Virtual Educational Campus, Technology Workshops the Health Program scheduled for this year and the link with the PROBE study are some examples.

Through our social networks and our website we disseminate these topics and others of general interest, including interviews, notes and news from the world of hemophilia.

Finally, our entity is moving towards becoming an NGO in order to obtain more and better financing to strengthen actions and obtain better results, to be able to have research agreements with different American universities, apply for projects from international agencies, etc. These actions We are always coordinated with the World Federation of Hemophilia because we believe that joining forces and articulating strategies enriches the life of the community.

Projects 2024

  • We have different lines of work with different projects to be able to meet the objectives set in our Strategic Planning. Some lines are:
  • World Hemophilia Day Webinars
  • Annual Summit of the Americas in September in Panama
  • Togheter Project: scholarship system so that women from the Americas are invited year after year to the NBDF BDCs with the objective of training and empowering them in the management of the registry of women and bleeding disorders.
  • Linkages with other entities: we have direct relationships with different US organizations linked to hemophilia to continue training leaders from the Americas in different international events, with scholarships for each of the applicants.
  • Women’s Committee: development of the Women’s Registry and Projects of the Lecture Series on Women and Hemophilia
  • Youth Committee: mentoring week in Spain in November for the training of young people in topics such as Health Technologies and Pharmacoeconomics

We thank our strategic partner organizations for their support of this work.
